Family SESSION

A+L Fall Session

Would you believe me if I told you this photo was taken 13 minutes before sunset?

This may not mean much up front but if you are acquainted with a gloomy, overcast October evening in Canada you know that means there’s not much light to play with and you are quite literally chasing the sun.

One thing I do to prepare for moments like this (other than stalk multiple weather apps day in and out), is to scout photoshoot locations virtually. I review the location on maps and use apps to track where the sun will be on the exact day and time of our session.

A little planning ahead helps me stay prepared for changing circumstances. In this case I knew that with a tight window of time, we’d want to keep the skyline in the photo to buy us a few more minutes of daylight. This meant walking an extra couple minutes to the top of the hill so we’d stay clear of being in the deep shadow and it was more than worth it!
